Barcelona (ACN).- Barcelona’s premier guided bus tour is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. Described as “the most convenient way to discover Barcelona's most interesting and attractive sights” the popular open-top bus tour has catered for over 21.7 million visitors and sight seers in Barcelona. With a fleet of 74 buses, the Barcelona Bus Turístic ensures a high frequency of buses across 45 stops at and around places of interest in Barcelona. With over 25 years of experience, the bus tour has developed from its initiation in 1987 through the city’s infrastructure and tourism boom attributable to the 1992 Summer Olympics. Barcelona took the global centre stage, visitors rapidly increased and the demand for tourism services such as the Barcelona Bus Turístic grew in parallel.

According to the First Deputy Mayor of Barcelona, Joaquim Forn, the Barcelona Bus Turístic is now “the second largest operator in the world after New York”. The Deputy Mayor of Economics and Business, Sonia Recasens also highlights that “it has extended the benefits of tourism to other areas of the city away from the centre and allows access to their neighbourhoods and businesses”. The benefits of the Barcelona Bus Turístic are clearly twofold. The multiple and extensive tour routes allow easy access to the city and its neighbourhoods for tourists, while the neighbourhoods of Barcelona benefit from the increased exposure thanks to the well designed bus routes. The Barcelona Bus Turístic offers 3 tour routes around Barcelona, 45 stops at places of interest and audio guides available in 10 languages. Designed around a “hop on, hop off” system, a single ticket is valid for a day and is one of the most flexible and comprehensive ways to discover Barcelona.
