The Roca brothers’ prestigious Girona restaurant, El Celler de Can Roca, now has yet another honor under its belt as it has been listed as one of ‘The Best of the Best’ in the world according to Restaurant Magazine.

The list comprises establishments that have previously been ranked 1st in its selective 'The World's 50 Best Restaurants' classification, which as of this year will no longer have to compete since the magazine will automatically consider them to form part of the world’s best.

These restaurants were awarded at the Restaurant Magazine gala that took place on Tuesday in Singapore.

Celler de Can Roca has twice been deemed the world’s best restaurant by this prestigious ranking – first in 2013 and once again in 2015 – and has 8 times been considered to be in the top 3 and 10 times in the five – an impressive feat by any standards.

Chef Joan Roca has described this move positively, seeing it as a way to both “democratize success” among less well known eateries and to take the pressure off those that are usually highly ranked that would win one year and feel demoted the next.

Other top Catalan restaurants

Aside from the Roca brothers’ joint, other Catalan restaurants were also recognized by Restaurant Magazine.

Of those ranked between 51 and 120 that were already announced ahead of the gala, one is Albert Adrià’s Barcelona restaurant, Enigma, in 82nd place.

in 2019 two other Barcelona restaurants, Oriol Castro, Eduard Xatruch and Mateu Casañas’ Disfrutar and also Albert Adrià’s Tickets, were ranked 9th and 20th respectively.
