'Cuttlefish delight': Hotel Üpper Diagonal wins best tapa in Barcelona

The results of the first City of Barcelona and Catalonia Pinxos and Tapas Competition are in. 

'Cuttlefish delight' from the lounge bar of the Üpper Diagonal hotel won first place at the event held on Monday at La Llotja de Mar in the Catalan capital. 

The winning tapa included sashimi and mango mayonnaise, prawn tartare and tuna salt among its ingredients. 

Salsa Street Food and Can Culleres came second and third in the competition, out of 24 finalists. 

The top three tapas in Catalonia will now go forward to compete in a Spain-wide competition, due to be held in Valladolid in November. 

The jury also awarded special prizes: Most creative tapa went to Merendero de la Mari for 'Journey to the Caribbean', most sustainable tapa was won by Hiu Restaurant for 'White asparagus mar i muntaya', and the most traditional tapa was won by Alba Granados for 'Cod esqueixada with Santa Pau bean mousse'.

First place receives €1,500 and an award, second place receives €1,000 and an award and third place receives €500.
