Barcelona (Gastroteca.cat).- A new centre for the promotion of Guarantee of Origin (DO) Conca de Barberà wines is now open in the Catalan town of Montblanc. The Centre d'Interpetació Enoturístic (Wine Tourism Centre) aims to promote wine tourism and provide information about the area’s wine offer.

The Centre d'Interpretació Enoturístic de la Conca de Barberà was inaugurated today in the Catalan town of Montblanc. Its objective is to “explain our wine, the landscape that surrounds us and the type of soil to visitors, but also to be a place for information about wine tourism and wine cellars of the area”, explained Carles Andreu, president of the Regulatory Board for the DO Conca de Barberà. The facility will be located inside the tower of Sant Antoni in the Catalan town of Montblanc. The DO Regulatory Board will also relocate its headquarters there, where it will offer information about wines and cavas from Conca. “We want to promote Conca de Barberà as a wine-producing territory in the public sector, becoming an intermediary between tourism and cellars”, stated Andreu.

The inauguration of the centre took place on Thursday. The Mayor of Montblanc, Josep Andreu, the president of the DO Regulatory Board, Carles Andreu and the Catalan Ministry of Agriculture’s General Director for Rural Development, Jordi Bertran, attended the ceremony. The inauguration of the centre coincided with the 25th anniversary of the DO Regulatory Board. A Magnum wine bottle was presented to commemorate the anniversary. Aware of the tourist potential of the area’s architecture such as the Poblet Monastery, the Conca de Barberà Provincial Council has also launched a “promotional area for the wine sector at the entrance of the monastery, with information about all the wines from Conca, which has received good responses from the public”, affirmed Andreu. The Council is also preparing a photographic exhibition by Albert Carreras and Lourdes Rué about the different cellars, cooperatives and wineries of the area.
