New productions of old favorites are coming to the Barcelona Liceu opera house this season: just in time for the 20th anniversary of its reopening.

This includes ‘Turandot’ by Franc Aleu (which will kick off the season), ‘Lohengrin’ by Katharina Wagner, and ‘The Barber of Seville’ by Josef Ernst Köpplinger, to be seen for the first time for the 2019/2020 season.

The iconic opera house will also, among others, look back to two of the most emblematic productions of the last two decades: ‘Carmen’ by Calixto Bieito and ‘Aida,’ with set design by Mestres Cabanes.

The programming is set to bring great voices, around 11 opera pieces, and 3 centered on dance (featuring English National Ballet and the flamenco dancer Maria Pagés).

Next season, for 2019/2020 disposes of a budget of almost two million more euros than usual, amounting to approximately €48.3 million.

During this time, the renovation of the Liceu façade will also be completed, to start next week, expected to end sometime in October.
