Girona (ACN).- Skye Edwards the lead singer from the British trip-hop and electronic band Morcheeba, will be releasing her new album in October but the public will have the opportunity to hear her tracks from her new album this Saturday at the Figueres Acústica Festival, in northern Catalonia. “If you were to give this album a colour it would be electric blue, it’s the music you listen to before a party” said Edwards. The singer has also been invited to spend a week’s holiday in Catalonia with her family and she will talk about her experience using social media. “The children want the sea and my husband Camp Nou, so it will be a beach and football holiday” she joked.

The vocalist from the UK trip-hop band Morcheeba is promoting her new solo album in Figueres, a Catalan city near the Costa Brava and the French border. She has already performed in Moscow and will be performing the new songs at the 11th Figueres Acústica Festival this Saturday and at a concert in London in November. “There will be five tracks from the new album” revealed Edwards.

Edwards explained that the new album is different from her other work “it’s more electronic”, she said. “If you were to give this album a colour it would be electric blue” said the singer who describes her new music as “pre-club”, that’s to say, music that’s designed to be listened to before going out. After promoting her new album, Skye Edwards will start work on a new album with Morcheeba. “I like to be busy”, she joked, adding that it will not be a problem to sing in band and have a solo career. In fact, she will perform both her own tracks and songs by Morcheeba at the Acústica de Figueres Festival. The Acústica Festival starts this Wednesday and runs until Sunday, with more than 40 artists performing at various locations throughout Figueres. The budget for the festival is €350,000.

A week’s holiday

The Figueres Acústica Festival showcases Catalan music and over the years has grown to include a broader variety of musicians. It is aiming this year to further internationalise the event, by inviting artists such as Skye Edwards. The trip-hop vocalist will be performing her music and has also been invited on a holiday in Catalonia as part of a new scheme created by the Festival.  Skye Edwards will be talking about her experiences of Catalonia using social media, and on a global platform, will promote the festival and Girona as a tourist destination. The beach, culture, art and horse riding are lined up for Edwards and her family at various locations across Empordà, Girona and Barcelona. “The children want the sea and my husband Camp Nou” said Edwards who will also sample the famous cuisine from the area, where the top restaurants El Bulli (considered for many years the best restaurant in the world) and El Celler de Can Roca (recognised in 2012 for the second consecutive year as the second best restaurant in the world) are located.

According to the Director of the Festival, Xavier Pascual, “it started as a crazy idea thought up with the entrepreneur Dídac Lee”, explained the Director of the festival, Xavier Pascual. Lee, who is from Figueres, is also FC Barcelona’s Director for New Technologies, responsible of the Catalan club’s social media and Internet strategy, with great results. In fact, FC Barcelona is the sports club with the greatest number of social media followers in the world. Lee’s idea was to invite international artists to spend a week’s holiday in Girona and for them talk about it on social networks. “What seemed like a crazy idea, really wasn’t” said Pascual.
