Barcelona (ACN).- The Cure will take part in this year’s Primavera Sound Festival to be held from May 30th to June 3rd in Barcelona. Robert Smith and his band will play a two hour show, according to the festival organisers. In addition to The Cure, other bands that have confirmed their presence so far include Björk, Wilco, The Drums, Death Cab for Cutie, Beirut, Franz Ferdinand, The XX, Jeff Mangum, Rufus Wainwright, or Yo La Tengo.

The organisation has revealed the majority of bands to feature in the line-up, a list that includes bands like Beirut, Girls, Japandroids, Rufus Wainwright, Wavves, Kings of Convenience, Wedding Present, Black Lips, Laura Marling, Melvins, Mudhoney or Richard Hawley.

One of the highlights of this Primavera Sound 2012 is the unexpectedly large number of heavy metal or hardcore bands, such as Napalm Death, Mayhem, Liturgy or Refused, and is further proof of the heterodox philosophy of the festival.

The Fòrum fairground will increase its perimeter by 15% and will maintain last year’s eight stages, with a maximum admission of 40,000 daily festivalgoers. The festival also announced a twin event in Porto, Portugal, with a similar lineup. Another new feature includes opening and closing concerts at a large open avenue close to the Arc de Triomf in Barcelona, which for the first time will be free to all and in this way form greater part of the city’s musical landscape.
