Figueres (ACN).- The American city of St. Petersburg in Florida will inaugurate the new museum on January 11th. More than than 6.000 square metres will be used to show case the work of the Catalan artist. Since 1982, the city has exhibited the private collection of the Morse family including 94 oil paintings and hundreds of drawings and sketches in a smaller space but the new museum has been exclusively designed to show case Dalí's work.

The new museum boasts more than 2.000 pieces of art from Salvador Dalí that the Morses' family collected through out the years. They had a close relationship with the artist. The Morse couple bought their first oil painting from Dalí back in 1943. After that, they all became friends and the Americans travelled frequently to Dalí's house to acquire other paintings. The private Morse collection was offered to the city of St. Petersburg when the original museum was inaugurated in 1982. Up to 300.000 people visit the Dalí Museum in Florida every year and it is expected that the centre could receive more visitors with its change of location and modernisation. The new museum, with more than 6.000 square metres, includes individual rooms for some of the 94 oil paintings of the collection and spaces for all the other artistic work. The museum also has a theatre to show videos about Dalí and his time. There is also a new restaurant.
