This November marks the 26th edition of Barcelona’s Independent Festival of Cinema, L’Alternativa. The festival encourages free and innovative cinema by offering activities and video pieces to promote the author’s diversity and creative independence.

Unique to this year’s festival, there will be a section dedicated to the fall of the Berlin Wall 30 years ago.

In collaboration with Catalan film organization Filmoteca de Catalunya, an array of documentaries have been selected that depict social, political and cultural reality before and after the wall’s destruction.

The pieces will be shown at the Filmoteca de Catalunya on Tuesday, November 12th, and will be attended by filmmaker Thomas Heise, who will kick off the tribute with his documentary piece, ‘Material’.

The L’Alternativa headquarters will once again become the Center for Contemporary Culture of Barcelona (CCCB) together with the Filmoteca de Catalunya and the Zumzeig cinema.

The festival also offers an on-demand video through digital online organization Filmin, where viewers can watch a selection of films shown at this year’s festival.

More on the festival’s programme, activities and special guests will be released in October and November.
