Barcelona (ACN).- This Friday, Barcelona’s Joan Miró Foundation announced the program for the 2013-2014 season of the museum of modern art that honours Catalan artist Joan Miró. ‘Art in Public Space’ is the provisional title of the exhibition that is scheduled to take place between January and July of 2014. The project will bring together sketches, preparatory paintings, models, photographs and videos that form part of the background of Miró’s work that has been placed in public areas. This Friday, the Director of the Foundation, Rosa Maria Malet, highlighted some of the forthcoming exhibitions that will take place in the museum. ‘Before the Horizon’ will run between this October and until February 2014 and will explore the use of the horizon as a recurring element in the history of modern painting. The new season will also include the exhibition ‘A place where artists have the right to fail. Stories of Espai 10 and Espai 13 at the Fundació Joan Miró’. This will explore the  history of space which has been used to present young emerging artists for the past 30 years.

In addition to these two exhibitions, the Foundation will also host a temporary exhibition of American artist Roni Horn, who this year was awarded the Joan Miró prize. This display of his work will take place between the 19th of June and the 28th of September 2014.

Malet also drew attention to international exhibitions of Joan Miró, including ‘Women, Birds, Stars, Joan Miró’ which is on show in Taiwan between June of this year until April 2014, and contains 86 pieces of work.

The Director detailed some of the touring exhibitions organised by the Foundation. One of which is called ‘Joan Miró. Gallery of anti-portraits’ which contains a selection of prints produced between 1969 and 1978 and will be on show in Navarra (northern Spain) between October of this year and January 2014.

Malet has calculated that up until the end of August of this year the Foundation has received almost 400,000 visitors, a figure that represents around 9,000 less than 2012. She pointed out that the organisation operates using its own resources and the amount of visitors could alter its future plans. Malet concluded by stating that the Foundation will keep a balanced budget, which in 2013 stood at €8.5 million.
