Beyond language - Contemporary Chinese Realism is the name of a new exhibition that opens on Wednesday in the European Museum of Modern Art (MEAM), in Barcelona.

Until April 28, visitors will be able to see 55 oil paintings by 30 Chinese artists that reproduce a variety of subjects, from landscapes to portraits, with a realism to rival photography.

The exhibition, produced in conjunction with the TIAC Academy of Fine Arts Florence, shows the growing interest for the pictorial tradition of oil painting in the Asian country.

Among the paintings on display in the exhibition are works by Chinese masters of the oil technique, such as Chen Danqing and Xu Mangyao.

In fact, Xu Mangyao will give a lecture at MEAM on Saturday April 13, in which he will provide an overview of the history of realism in his home country.

Alongside the exhibition, the TIAC academy will also offer a workshop for artists on Wednesday under the tutelage of Spanish painter, Golucho.
