Barcelona’s Can Framis Museum opened its restructured collection this weekend
The permanent collection of the Can Framis Museum, located in a functionalist venue built three years ago, reopened its doors this Saturday. The museum, run by the Fundació Vila Casas, has restructured its permanent collection of contemporary paintings originating from the 1960’s onwards. The works are by various artists born or living in Catalonia and includes 45 new paintings, 20 of which are new acquisitions.
Barcelona (ACN).- Last Saturday Can Framis Museum reopened its doors, revealing its new restructured permanent exhibition. Entitled 'Travessa d'instants' (Instant crossing), the exhibition project includes 45 new pieces, 20 of which are newly acquired. Can Framis Museum is run by the Fundció Vila Casas and is located in Barcelona’s technological district 22@, in an old factory fully renovated as an iconic functionalist venue unveiled three years ago. Can Framis Museum is in fact one of the most important architectural works built in Barcelona in the last decade. The Museum first opened in September last year and shows the connection established between the collector and the artwork, focusing on works from the 1960’s onwards created by artists born or living in Catalonia.
Additions include, among others, works of authors, some of which were already present in the collection, offering a more comprehensive overview. This is the case with the painter Alfons Borrell, with the incorporation of three large paintings showing a harmonic and poetical chromatic intensity. The permanent collection also shows works by Joaquim Llucià, a famous Art Informel painter of the fifties and sixties who explored new artistic mediums and techniques which, however, did not receive the recognition it deserved.
The exhibitions start with a large painting by Jordi Fulla, which fuses oriental thought and the fragility of nature in a globalised world. Another highlight is the striking and enigmatic portrait of Frida Kahlo, which was realised by the artist Mario Pasqualotto with intense and colourful plastic material that connect with the work of the Mexican painter.
Other projects from the Vila Casas Foundation
From September 20th, the Fundació Vila Casas’ Espai Volart and Espai Volart 2 will host the temporary exhibitions dedicated to Víctor Pérez-Porro and Daniel Enkaoua respectively. From September 25th, in Can Framis’ Espai AØ will present an exhibition dedicated to the photographer Agustí Centelles with a collection of 110 photographs of the Republic, the Civil War and from when the Catalan photographer went into exile.
