The wooded area surrounding the small town of Maials in southern Catalonia, which was affected by last summer's devastating wildfire, housed the 'Cendrart. Trobada d'art per la terra' art installation on October 5 and 6.

The initiative, which was the result of the efforts of 30 artists from all throughout Catalonia, strived to enliven the burnt land and bring people closer to it.

Mannequins with "optimistic" words written on them, abstract paintings and photographs were part of the project aiming, in the words of the organizers, to "combat the destruction with creativity."

The June wildfire in southern Catalonia affected some 5,000 hectares in the counties of Ribera d'Ebre, Segrià and Garrigues near the Ebre river.
