Figueres (ACN).- This year’s Acústica music festival was the most successful ever with 80,000 people enjoying the event which showcases Catalan local bands and artists. The figures represent a 25% increase on last year’s edition. The festival’s director, Xavier Pascual, stated that “these figures show that our idea 12 years ago [to create the festival] was a good one”. He also explained how the good weather resulted in the increase in the amount of spectators, which according to Pascual illustrates the “good health” of Catalan music and culture. During the festival the town is transformed with the centre becoming pedestrainised with numerous stages in the streets and squares. The most popular concerts were those of the groups Chambao, La Pegatina, the municipal band of Figueres and Delafé y Las Flores Azules. The family friendly festival is said to have a strong economic impact on the town. Figueres is located in northern Catalonia and is famous for being the birthplace of artist Salvador Dalí. It is a popular tourist destination with one of the highlights being the Dalí Theatre and Museum.

Other concerts were the crowds enjoyed were those of Blaumut and Catarres while the singer Sara Pi showed herself to be one of the most promising up-and-coming Catalan artists. Pascual highlighted the current quality of local musicians. “It says a lot” that of the 44 groups that performed, 43 of them are residents of Catalonia, he said. Each year, the festival has become more popular and both locals and tourists have attended.

The Acústica festival was last year named the best festival of Catalonia and prides itself on being an event that people of all ages can enjoy with face painting, parades and music with plenty of audience participation for adults and children to enjoy. After this success, the organisation is working on next year’s edition. Pascual concluded by stating that the same stages will be kept in the future because of their success.
