Images of yesterday's remarkable events are still fresh on people's minds. The referendum on independence was finally held in most polling stations, but under exceptional circumstances and against all odds, as the world was watching. Spanish police attacked many citizens as they waited to vote leaving 893 people injured. The Catalan president denounced it as “police brutality.” But every action has a consequence, as does this unprecedented violence from yesterday.
