Unemployment up 1.78% in November, worst figure since 2009

The number of people out of work increased by 7,400 during the first month that Catalonia was governed from Madrid

Unemployment increased by 1.78% in Catalonia last month compared with October. According to the figures published by the Spanish Ministry for Employment, there are 422,462 people currently registered in the Employment Service of Catalonia (SOC). This is the biggest increase in unemployment in Catalonia since 2009.

After the Balearic Islands, Catalonia is the territory in which the number of people out of work is growing the most in absolute terms. In the whole of Spain, unemployment increased by 7,255 people (+ 0.21%) in November in comparison with figures from October. However, unemployment is still down 8.75% in Catalonia compared to November last year.
