Unemployment rate down to 10.63%, lowest since 2008

Some 33,500 jobs were created between July and September this year

The unemployment rate in Catalonia fell from 11.39% to 10.63% in the third quarter of 2018.

According to the Labor Force Survey (EPA), from the Spanish statistics institute, some 400,000 people are still jobless, but this figure is 28,000 less than three months ago.

With new people entering the labor market, some 33,500 jobs were created between July and September this year.

The figures show that Catalonia is leading the fall in unemployment in Spain as a whole, where the rate was down to 14.55% in the third term of 2018.

In the past 12 months, some 77,000 jobs have been created, with the unemployment figure down from 12.54%  to 10.63%, the lowest rate since the third quarter of 2008, when it stood at 8.8%.
