Some 1,400,752 foreign visitors stayed in a hotel in Catalonia in June, a 2.7% rise compared with last year. While the overall number of visitors staying in a Catalan hotel fell slightly by 0.2%, to 2,175,660 people, the figures nevertheless reveal that it was the best June ever, after last year’s all-time record for a June.

In all, the number of overnight stays in hotels in Catalonia in June amounted to a total of 6.4 million nights, just 4.3% under last year’s record figure of 6.6 million. Catalonia was the second place in Spain with the highest number of overnight stays in hotels in June, accounting for 18% of the total, after the Canary Islands, which made up 26% of the total. In Spain as a whole, there were a total of 36,198,765 overnight stays in hotels in June, just 1.2% fewer than in the same month last year.

The average number of nights visitors stayed in each hotel in Spain in June was 3.3 nights per person, a slight fall of 3.2% compared to the same month last year. Meanwhile, the figures also show a small drop of 0.2% in the number of overnight stays in hotels in Spain for the first six months of this year compared with the same period in 2017.
