SEAT will launch six new electric car models and plug-in hybrids by 2021

The Catalan plant of the firm will lead the Volkswagen group's electric car platform

SEAT has presented its new market strategy, while includes the launch of six new electric and plug-in hybrid models into the market by 2021.

At a presentation at the company’s headquarters in Martorell, the Catalan based car manufacturer announced the first two 100% electric models in their range; a fully electric version of the small city car Mii, and a new model called el-Born, named for the neighbourhood in Barcelona's city center.

Their iconic León hatchback will be available in a plug-in hybrid version, as well as the, Tarraco large SUV, CUPRA León, and brand-new CUPRA Formentor.

In the announcement, SEAT also confirmed that the CUPRA Formentor will be manufactured at the Martorell plant.

Volkswagen electric project

The newly released market strategy also included details of how the company will develop its first platform for electric vehicles in collaboration with Volkswagen, leading the project for the electric car in the Volkswagen Group.

They also plan on developing models for less than €20,000, where more than 300 engineers will work in this project in Spain.

In 2018, SEAT reached their best year for sales since 1957. Last year they sold more than 517,000 models.
