Geneva (ACN).- Barcelona-based SEAT, which is part of the Volkswagen Group, has chosen the Geneva Motor Show to introduce its new vehicle in the Leon range, the cars whose sales increased the most in 2013, with a total of 102,000 units sold. This latest creation is the new Leon Cupra, by far the most powerful and the fastest vehicle manufactured by the Catalan company, whose main factory is located in Martorell (Greater Barcelona). With its 280 horsepower, this sports model will hit the market in both 5-door and 3-door versions. Coinciding with the opening of the event this Tuesday, SEAT also presented the Mango version of its Mii city car, a special edition resulting from the collaboration between designers at the SEAT Martorell plant and the Catalan fashion multinational which includes, amongst other novelties, exclusive paintings in beige and black.

The new Mii by Mango also features a redesigned interior with new upholstery for both front and rear seats. The new city car, aimed mainly at women, is looking to be trendy, according to the company directors. The new version will be available in both 3-door and 5-door versions, and also in the ‘Style’ finish.

International sales increased by 10.6% in 2013 and by 44% for the Leon range alone

SEAT President Jürgen Stackmann, who attended the presentation of the two new releases, stressed the good results achieved by the Catalan company. SEAT registered a 10.6% increase in sales in 2013, the best results in the last five years, notably due to the successful sales of the Leon range of cars.

In fact, in 2013, SEAT sold 355,000 vehicles worldwide, 102,000 of which were for the Leon range alone, a figure representing a 44% increase on the previous year for this car model. In Western Europe, its main market, Seat has been among the fastest growing brands, with a 9.4% increase in sales.

SEAT brand “made in Barcelona”

For Stackmann, SEAT is experiencing a “positive business momentum” and the company President is convinced that this phase of growth “will continue throughout 2014”. According to him, “the new Leon range is contributing to this growth in an instrumental manner” to the point “of being about to become the second pillar of the brand along with the Ibiza range”, a model that the company sells the most worldwide.

Finally, Stackmann highlighted the youthful spirit of SEAT, stating that it is “a brand ‘made in Barcelona’”. He also said he is confident that the new Leon Cupra, a fast, powerful and at the same time familiar model will be “the new icon of the company”.
