Barcelona (ACN).- According to union sources, SAS Automotive Systems, supplier for SEAT, has announced the closure of its Martorell factory, leaving 124 workers out of a job.

SAS is part of SEAT. The company made the announcement to its employees on the 29th of July, claiming that the closure it a result of a loss of contract with its cockpit supplier. Negotiations of the closure will begin the 6th of September. Unions are demanding that, despite the change in supplier, SAS workers should move to the production line of the new company.

Félix Repullo, general secretary of the Industry Federation CCOO of Baix Llobregat, told ACN that the majority of the 124 workers from the SAS factory have been working there for up to 17 years. Repullo argued that the specialisation of the factory works should allow them to continue working in the new company. According to syndicate sources, SAS lost its contract with SEAT on the 30th of July, which motivated the company to call for closure. While unions are awaiting negotiation talks with the company on the 6th of September, workers have already begun mobilizing this morning with a 5-hour demonstration at the factory doors.
