New ferry connects Barcelona and Savona

This January, Grimaldi, the multinational logistics group specialised in maritime transport for major vehicle manufacturers’ world suppliers, has launched a new ferry called the “Florencia” to connect the Catalan capital and Savona, an Italian port located about 50km west of Genoa. This investment allows the company to double the frequency between the two harbours. The brand new “Florencia” is 186m long and can carry 1,000 passengers and 170 cars. It makes three trips per week: at midnight every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, reaching its destination the next day at 6pm.

Barcelona (ACN).- This January, Grimaldi, the multinational logistics group specialised in maritime transport for major vehicle manufacturers’ world suppliers, has launched a new ferry called the “Florencia” to connect Barcelona and the Italian port of Savona. This route has already been run since 2012 by two Eurocargo ships, equipped for car transportation, as well as vans, trucks and trailers. The brand new “Florencia” is 186m long and can carry 1,000 passengers, 170 cars, and is sailing at about a 23 knots cruising speed. This investment allows the company to double the frequency between the two harbours.

“Florencia”, the new ferry of the maritime transport group Grimaldi, makes three trips per week: at midnight every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, reaching its destination the next day at 6pm.

Sixte Cambra, the President of Barcelona harbour, claimed that this new service will contribute to “more efficient and sustainable logistics” for short-distance sea journeys. Emanuele Grimaldi, the CEO, said that the intensification of the service will “benefit companies in North Italy and Central Europe transporting goods such as fruit, vegetables, fish and pharmaceutical products, which require frequent and punctual maritime connections to the mainland”.
