Computer multinational Microsoft is planning to open a quantum lab in Barcelona, according to various media outlets on Tuesday. The reports say that two weeks ago, Microsoft Quantum, the US giant’s quantum computing division, published an ad on its Linkedin profile looking for engineers in and around Barcelona.

Moreover, sources in the property sector confirmed that the company is currently looking for premises around 1,000 m2 in size in the Catalan capital. Microsoft already has an office in Diagonal Mar, which employs some 70 people. The Barcelona quantum lab could employ some 60 engineers, physicists and mathematicians.

Microsoft’s network of quantum labs already has groups of technicians working in the US in Redmond (Washington), Santa Barbara (California) and Lafayette (Louisiana), while outside the US the company has labs in Delft (the Netherlands), Copenhagen (Denmark) and Sydney (Australia).
