Inflation rate in Catalonia set at 3% for 2010

Prices increased by 7 decimals last December. The monthly price increase was of tobacco and transport.

Madrid (ACN).- Prices increased by 7 decimals in December in Catalonia compared to the previous month, according to the Spanish Institute of Statistics. This last figure left the annual inflation rate for 2010 at 3%. In November, the inflation rate accumulated in the last 12 months was 2.5%. For the whole of Spain, inflation rate increased 6 decimals in December and the annual rate for 2010 was also set at 3%. The products that influenced the price increase the most were tobacco, fuel and lubricants; these last two provoking a price increase regarding transport. The Spanish subjacent inflation, which does not take into account fresh food or energy saw an annual increase of 1.5%


Increases in the price of tobacco and fuel are the main causes for the inflation rate’s increase. Last month, the price of tobacco and alcohol increased by 5.7% in comparison to November. In fact, in this category of products, prices increased by 14.4% throughout 2010. The other products responsible for the inflation increase are fuel and lubricants, which increased the transport price by 2% during December. In this category, the annual inflation rate is 9.2%. The rest of the products maintained their price with just small variations.
