The United Arab Emirates (UAE) airline Etihad will open five weekly flights connecting Barcelona with Abu Dhabi beginning on November 21.

Etihad announced that it will likely operate daily flights between the two “important global hubs” from March 31 next year.

According to the Emirati airline’s executive director, Peter Baumgartner, the route will be “very popular.”

Baumgartner said that the opening of this new route between the Catalan and UAE capitals is in order to meet “a significant increase in demand.”

The company also stated that it will increase the frequency of flights during the Mobile World Congress, which will take place next year between February 25 and 28.

New routes between Reus and Moscow

Meanwhile, new connections between Reus, Catalonia’s third biggest airport, and Moscow have been set up.

The company Royal Flight will operate two weekly flights on Wednesdays and Saturdays to the Russian capital up to September 29, offering 6,944 seats.

This new connection with Moscow will be complemented by the route started last Summer by Russian airline Pobeda.

Between the two airlines, 27,118 seats will be available throughout the Summer season. Compared to last summer, demand in the Russian market has increased by 38.9%

The low-cost Russian airline Pobeda will also run daily flights between Moscow and Girona for the duration of the summer. The reason for this increase in frequency by the airline, which already operates at Girona airport throughout the rest of the year, is due to the increase in tourist demand.
