Dutch cybersecurity firm Brightsight has opened its first centre abroad, in Sant Cugat del Vallès, where the company expects to create 40 jobs over the next three years.

Acquiring the Catalan start-up Bitwise provided the firm with “a very strong initial capacity and expertise” that led it to set up in Catalonia, which it hopes will allow for growth and to be nearer to clients in the area, said Xavier Vilarrubla, the head of the new office. Brightsight offers computer security services for other companies all over the world in sectors such as payment services, electronic identification and the Internet of Things.

Brightsight’s investment in Catalonia received support from the Catalan government through its business agency, Acció. The firm, with more than 30 years in the sector and whose HQ is in Delft, in the Netherlands, has 150 employees and recently opened a laboratory in Beijing, in China.

According to Acció, there are 597 Dutch companies in Catalonia, some 8.4% of them multinationals.
