Catalonia needs to give more thought to "business growth and wealth creation" in order to overcome the financial crisis

Sant Cugat (ACN).- The President of the Catalonia, Artur MAs, said on Monday that "companies need to grow and create wealth" because, as he said, this "is the formula for overcoming the difficult situation which we find ourselves in". The president of the Catalan Government visited the facilities of the Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceutical, which has extended its production lines for sterile injectable substances, as an example of how "in difficult times, companies can grow, innovate, export and create jobs".


The President said on Monday that the German pharmaceutical company is a "family business" stressing that "a company can grow, invest, expand and export" and this he said "is what we need". The head of Government said that "like the Germans, Catalans have a tradition of a strong work ethic, in which business people strive to create a prosperous country." Mas also said that behind the crisis "is always the industry, companies turn ideas into products that give way to new opportunities."

The president opened the new facilities at Boehringer Ingelheim in the centre of pharmaceutical area of Sant Cugat, accompanied by the Mayor of the town, Mercedes Conesa, the delegate of the Government in the area of Barcelona, Salvador Jorba, and the Director General and Chairman of the Board of Directors of BIES, Luis Manuel Garcia and Garrido Llubí, respectively. Boehringer Ingelheim has been operational in Catalonia for almost 60 years with two international centres of manufacturing, the pharmaceutical production factory in Sant Cugat and the Chemical laboratory in Malgrat de Mar
