Alstom to supply new trains for Lima Metro
The new ‘Metropolis’ trains will be manufactured at the company factory in Santa Perpètua de Mogoda, in Barcelona. Alstom has signed a €200 million contract with Graña y Montero Ferrovías to supply 20 train sets (120 cars) for Line 1 of the Lima Metro, in Peru, and 19 additional new carriages to complete the existing train sets already in use on the line. The Catalan factory will design and manufacture the new carriages, which are inspired by the Barcelona Metro. With the new trains the Lima Metro will more than double its transportation capacity, from 20,000 passengers per hour to 48,000.
Barcelona (CNA).- The Alstom factory in Santa Perpètua de Mogoda, near Barcelona, will produce 20 train sets for Line 1 of the Lima Metro, in Peru. The transport multinational has signed a €200 million contract with Graña y Montero Ferrovías to supply the Peruvian capital with new trains from the ‘Metropolis’ series. The contract also includes the manufacture of 19 additional new cars to complete the existing train sets already in use on the line. The delivery of the 139 metro carriages is scheduled to be completed by 2019.
The Lima metro line, opened in 2011, is 43 km long and includes 26 stations. It crosses the capital city from the South at ‘Villa El Salvador’ to the North at ‘San Juan de Lurigancho’. Up to 320,000 citizens use it every day. With the new ‘Metropolis’ train sets manufactured in Catalonia the Lima Metro will more than double its transportation capacity, from 20,000 passengers per hour to 48,000.
The cars will have air conditioning, passenger information services and step-free access. The carriages are inspired by the Serie 9000 of the Barcelona Metro, which was also designed and manufactured in the Alstom factory in Santa Perpetua de Mogoda.
