Milan (ACN).- The lastest International Motorcycle Exhibition, EICMA, kicks off on November 10th with the presence of 13 Catalan motorbike manufacturers among the participants. The Italian fair is considered the most relevant in the sector on a global scale, and hosts around 1.400 brands from 43 different countries. It will have its doors open to the public until November 13th. Some of the participating Catalan makes have used this chance to present new 2-wheel models boosted by the Motorbike Strategic Plan of Catalonia, a financial aid promoted by the Catalan Ministry of Business and Employment.

Milan’s International Motorcycle Exhibition represents a unique opportunity for motorbike producers to demonstrate Catalonia’s significant place within the 2-wheel manufacturing companies. The 13 Catalan participants are Rieju, Tecnigas, Ollé Amortidors, Beon Automotive, Gas Gas, Guilera SA, Ossa, J.Juan, Nadsa, Mecatecno, Volta Motorbike, Facomsa and Scutum. The Motorbike Cluster, a group of motorbike and moped producers and suppliers, is also participating in collaboration with 20 companies to display all the production capacities of Catalan industry. The General Director of Industry, Joan Sureda, has travelled to the Italian city together with Jordi Jordana, the person responsible for the Motorbike Cluster, to support the Catalan companies and meet with the makers displaying their latest models. These are the cases of Ossa, the company that presents its new enduro model –motorbikes specially created for off-road races– which includes advanced technology; the new electric model Volta BCN; the trial and enduro models of Gas Gas, and the relaunch of Mecatecno through new electric motorbikes for children. Catalonia is an industrial area that hosts many motorbike factories of renowned international brands such as Honda. Despite Yamaha’s decision to close its Catalan factory last March, Catalan motorbike production remains in the spotlight of the motor industry thanks to the new investigation branches directed towards electric models. Catalonia is also well situated within the automotive sector: Seat and Nissan’s plants are located in here; Ficosa’s factory, a corporation specialising in production systems and parts for automobiles, and the Circuit de Catalunya (Catalan for Catalonia’s Circuit) are the most important examples of Catalonia’s positive influence in the international motor market.
